Sherlock Holmes QotD: 2nd January, 2015

Blue Carbuncle“My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don’t know.”
From The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle.

This is a story from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes collection. Published in 1892 but set 3 years earlier, it ends with Holmes deciding against handing someone in to the authorities as he feels it will do the man no good. This reminds us that Holmes is in it for the chase, the mental stimulation and not always to see justice enacted as per the law of the land. In fact, you could argue that this story is quite literally a wild goose chase.
